Scrap-Tastic Valentine's Cards!
Share
Every once in a while, I like to do crafts that aren't necessarily sewing... but sewing adjacent... or don't involve sewing at all!
I thought it would be really cute to do a set of Valentine's Day cards this year using scrap fabric, a set of letter stamps I found at the thrift store, and more. Some of them turned out well, and those are the ones you see here. Some of them turned out so badly, you can't even tell what they are really.
I'll be featuring the scrap fabric cards in this blog post, but I did do a few watercolor ones as well (shown at the end!).
Scrap Fabric Valentine's Cards
What you need:
- Cardstock or Scrapbook Paper
- Scrap Fabric (red/pink)
- Glue Stick
- Sewing Machine
- Stamps (optional)
- Markers (optional)
- Any other collage item such as magazines, paper scraps, etc. (optional)
Instructions:
Take your cardstock or whatever paper you're using and form it into a card. I used some white scrapbook paper I had and folded it into quarters, then cut one of the lines.

I have a huge amount of fabric scraps, so I dug around until I found one I liked.
I used a fine line marker to draw a heart onto the BACK side of the fabric, then used my snips to cut the shape out. Then, I glued the heart to the front page of my card using a glue stick. I cut out a few more hearts, and glued those on as well.

The next step is to take it to your machine and sew the edges down. Now, I have a Bernina B770 QE, so I have access to the BSR (Bernina Stitch Regulator) that makes free motion quilting a BREEZE. My advice is, if you don't know how to FMQ on your machine, do a quick Google search on how to do that on your specific machine. I just stitched around the edges of my hearts, but you can do whatever you want to stitch them down!

I then took this cute little alphabet stamp set I got at the thrift store to write the words on my cards! If you don't have a stamp set, use your favorite markers, or stickers, or you could even cut letters out of a magazine and do more of a collage style!

Add anything else you want to your card! Literally! I found some teeny tiny crochet hearts at Walmart that I considered buying... but they were a little expensive..
Tear apart your favorite magazine for reds and pinks and hearts and roses. Use paint. Modpodge some newspaper down and then stamp some hearts on top of it. DO WHATEVER YOU WANT! This is supposed to be cute and fun and purely creative!
(Also... can't wait to do Christmas cards with the same idea as well...)

Enough talking! Here are my cards!

I had so much fun taking a little break from my sewing machine (I mean... stitching these down took 10 seconds each... I still count it as a break). I also was reminded how much I love watercolor and need to get back into it!
