Monthly Maker Check-In: May 2026
Share
Hi Makers!
Welcome back to another monthly studio update! I’m sharing a peek behind the scenes at what’s been keeping me busy this month, and I hope you’ll leave a comment and tell me what’s been on your cutting table lately, too.
What I Made This Month
Continuing on the Eudaimonia Studio's Hand & Soul BOM, here is May's block, Kismet!

I finished the yellow Yanta Overalls by Helen's Closet that I talked about last month. I also sewed up her Lazo Jumpsuit & Holmes Dress mashup!

I finished the Henrietta Skirt by Spaghetti Western Sewing in under an hour... I think it's going to be my new favorite skirt pattern! And to go with it I sewed the Lockhart Dress by Helen's Closet using the hack to make it into a top! It needs a little more fitting fixes, but I love it!

While I was at my first ever Quilt Retreat, I completed the Camping Sampler by Quiltcore Patterns. From start to finish!!!

I also made another Slow Stitch Zipper Pouch (a pattern soon to be released by me!!) in bright colors!

What Inspired Me
I got to do some of my favorite things this month. Go fabric shopping, and (a new favorite) go to Quilt Retreat! They both filled my cup up so much!
I went to Stitchin' Post in Little Rock, AR to buy the fabrics for my Camping Sampler quilt. I think I picked out some pretty good fabrics for it! My only regret is making the background so creamy and not a light green or other color. It clashes too much with the actual white.
You can read all about my time at the NWAMQG Quilt Retreat in this blog post. It was definitely one of the best weekends of my life and I can't wait to do it again!
Things I Loved
As always, I loved anything Ruby Star Society. At Quilt Retreat, a lot of the girls were sewing with Ruby Star and it made me soooooooo jealous that I immediately thought of a pattern to write with Ruby Star (knowing full well I just need to use my stash right now and not buy new fabric.... oh well).
I was gifted a pop-up box and some mini charms that were Ruby Star, so that will have to do for now!
New Ideas or Techniques I Want to Try
I really want to try to design and write more patterns that are quilted, but not quilts. Try to get my head around reverse construction techniques and figuring out what goes where and when! I have a few ideas for zipper pouches, coin purses, and even a seat cushion (because I regret not bringing one to Quilt Retreat!).
Reflections on My Creative Process
This month I had a lot of fun going back to my roots of garment sewing. I still REALLY need to work on fitting, especially my torso. With the Lazo/Holmes mashup, the skirt of the Holmes fits perfectly, but the vest of the Lazo is too big, even though I looked at the measurements AND finished measurements. I just feel like I can't seem to get it right.
I also need to not get too ahead of myself when I have new ideas. Work on what I had already planned to work on. Park the new ideas in the garage. Work on them when I have time.
Next Month's Intention
I will be focusing on crochet and knitting projects, writing as many blog posts as I can ahead of time so I don't get behind again and have to rush, and writing a few patterns!
