Monthly Maker Check-In: March 2026

Monthly Maker Check-In: March 2026

Hi friends!

It's that time of the month again where we talk about what this month was like creatively! Each month I like to slow down and take stock of what I've made, what I've learned along the way, and what's calling my attention next.

No matter how you create, a monthly check-in is an easy way to stay inspired and keep moving forward, without the pressure to do everything at once.

What I Made This Month

Per usual, we'll start with the March BOM from Eudaimonia Studios. Surprisingly, this one was pretty difficult for me. It's all rectangles, no crazy HRTs or curves, but I had a lot of trouble getting things to line up... so it turned out kinda wibbly wobbly. Oh well!

I finished a few commissions, one a quilt and one a tote bag (that will be a pattern in the book I'm slowly going to write!)

I also made two patterns from Matchy Matchy Sewing Club: the Weekend Chore Pants and the Colorblock Set!

26/26 Goal Update

Since this is the last month of the 1st Quarter, I am going to update everyone on how I'm doing with my 26 for 2026 Goal list as well! I've completed 5 goals (Publish a pattern, start working on my book idea, get into projector sewing, launch my website and blog, and try a new hobby). There are a few that I won't fully count until they're all the way done, but I've already marked them off (Participate in a BOM), and then there's the one's that will take the whole year, like reading 35 books, losing 30 lbs, and doing a trendy reel every month!

What Inspired Me

I made personalized punch cards to help me accomplish some mini goals, so I got to bring my watercolors back out to make those all nice and pretty! I want to get back into watercolor just for fun, and I think it would be really cool to do one of those "reverse" watercolor drawings where you make blobs with the watercolor first and then go back and draw whatever the blob inspires!

I'm also participating in yet ANOTHER mug rug swap, but this time, I get to talk to my partner! I'm really wanting to try my hand at improv quilting for this mug rug, but I also want to make it into an actual thing. SO I'm going to make an improv based flower! Or at least try. We'll see how it actually goes.

Things I Loved

I'm changing this from "Materials & Colors I Loved" to "Things I Loved" simply because... I sometimes don't have a fabric I'm specifically gravitating towards at the moment. So March's things I loved are projector sewing and crocheting or knitting during church!

Projector sewing is ABSOLUTELY GAME CHANGING!!!! It took 3 of us about an hour to figure out how to set it up (our main problem was focus... turns out it was on the remote and not on the projector itself... after that things were easy!)

I also love taking a crochet or knitting project to church with me. It calms my racing thoughts enough to actually pay attention to my dad's sermon! If I don't have something to do with my hands I will either fall asleep or just want to be on my phone writing all my thoughts down the whole time. Right now I'm working on a crochet baby blanket!

New Ideas or Techniques I Want to Try

As I stated above, I am going to try my hand at improv quilting! Now, I do have a little bit of a plan, so it's not puuuuuure improv, but it will not be PERFECT STRAIGHT LINES AND MEASUREMENTS. I'm pretty excited to see what I can come up with!

I also want to play around more with free motion quilting on my Bernina. Specifically, drawing on the fabric and then tracing over my markings. A little more intentional than the chaos of the free motion meandering that I did last month.

Reflections on My Creative Process

This month has come with a lot of phone procrastination. I really need to figure out how I can listen to my podcasts, WITHOUT having my phone next to me...

I need to pay more attention to cutting straight lines when I'm cutting out my quilting pieces. Even if I'm a little off, it will affect the final product.

I'm really proud of myself for figuring out the instructions to make my sunrise tote bag look correct the first time! It did take a lot of mental folding and math, but I did it! I'm so excited to make this one into a full pattern.

I'm working on so many good things for the future right now, I'm really excited to show everyone what I have to bring to the world.

Next Month's Intention

Once again, other things get in the way and my plans change. I still have not worked on my wedding projects, although I did decide that I WILL NOT be doing the mod podge/food coloring hack to make all my vases into colored glass. Turns out, you have to paint the inside of the glass, and that would be super difficult with some of these tiny necked vases.. So I'll just leave them clear!

I'm working hard on my pattern designing! I've got my second pattern in tech edits, my third pattern in the works during the Alderwood Studio Pattern Writing Academy, and then two non-quilt patterns in the works for the future!

April will be DYEING month on the blog! I've been working on the prep and making my projects, so I can take pictures and write them up for April! I'm super excited to show off these projects!

April's plans come with a lot of clothing projects, quilt design, and I MUST START ON THE WEDDING PROJECTS! After tax season is over, the rest of wedding planning and doing goes full force...
