Meet "Slow Stitch Zipper Pouch"
Share
The Slow Stitch Zipper Pouch pattern is officially here, and funny enough, it started as something completely different.
Originally, this design was part of a much bigger idea. I wanted to create a full “receipt roll” scrap-busting collection: a quilt pattern, a table runner, and a smaller project all designed around using up those long, skinny fabric scraps we somehow always end up with.
But somewhere along the way, the pouch took on a life of its own.
As I started sewing the first sample, I realized this little project had way more creative potential than I expected. I was working with earthy batiks and piecing together receipt roll-style scraps when I found myself wanting to add something extra... organic, freeform hand stitching that would bring in texture and make the project feel even more personal.
That’s when things really clicked.
As I stitched across the pouch, the lines started reminding me of trails winding through a landscape. Specifically, they reminded me of a local hiking spot called Earthquake Ridge, and for a while, I thought that might even become the name of the pattern.

But then I made the second sample.
Somewhere between the stitching and the shape of the design, the feeling shifted. Instead of rugged hiking-trail energy, this version felt warmer and brighter, like summer mornings, sunshine, and taking your time. I stitched a sun motif into the pouch, and suddenly the project made sense in a whole new way.

The Slow Stitch Zipper Pouch became less about a specific place and more about a feeling: slowing down, making something with intention, and enjoying the process as much as the finish.
This pattern is designed to help you use scraps in a creative way... especially those odd, skinny pieces that can be hard to work into larger projects. It’s beginner-friendly, endlessly customizable, and perfect for experimenting with hand stitching, texture, and organic design. No two pouches will ever look the same, and that’s probably my favorite part!
Use treasured scraps from past quilts, favorite fabrics you’ve been saving, or whatever is sitting in your stash waiting for a second life. Whether you add simple stitches or go full freeform embroidery, this pouch is meant to be playful and low-pressure.
And at the end? You get something beautiful and useful.
You can get the pattern here.
I can’t wait to see how you make it your own. If you sew a Slow Stitch Zipper Pouch, tag me (#TKCSlowStitchPouch) so I can see your stitching, scraps, and creative spin on the pattern!
