Meet Block Party: A Scrap-Friendly Coin Purse Pattern

Sometimes, you just want a small project that lets you dig into your scraps and make something fun. That’s exactly what inspired Block Party, my newest coin purse pattern!

I wanted to create a little project with multiple options for the same finished make. Whether you want to keep the piecing simple or give yourself a little challenge, there’s a block for you. That gathering of different blocks is where the name Block Party came from!

Pick Your Block

The pattern includes three patchwork options:

  • Pinwheel: The easiest option, perfect for keeping things simple.

  • Sawtooth Star: A little more piecing for a medium-level challenge.

  • Ohio Star: The most challenging of the three, for when you want to spend a little extra time on your tiny patchwork.

You can use the same block on both sides or mix and match. It’s your Block Party, so invite whichever blocks you like!

Of course, my favorite part is choosing scraps. Small projects like this give me an excuse to pull out those little fabric pieces I’ve been saving and play with combinations. Different colors and prints can give the same block a completely different personality.

A Little Patchwork, a Little Bag Making

Each coin purse has a zipper closure, a lining, and fusible fleece to give it some structure. There’s also an optional keychain attachment if you’d like to clip yours onto your keys or a bag.

If you haven’t sewn a zipper before, don’t let that stop you! The pattern walks you through the zipper installation, so you don’t need previous zipper experience. Choose the block you feel comfortable with, then follow the illustrated instructions through the construction.

I’ll also be sharing a wristlet tutorial on the blog next week if you’d like another way to carry your coin purse!

A Party Full of Fabric Inspiration

Seeing my testers’ versions has been such a fun part of bringing this pattern to life. I’m sharing their photos alongside mine so you can see how different fabric choices look across the three block options.

A huge thank-you to my testers for their time, feedback, and creativity!
