Button Barrettes: The Brainless Craft I Needed
Share
Wedding planning is a lot. Somewhere in the middle of it, I needed a craft I could do without thinking. No measuring, no cutting, no seam allowances. Just something colorful and fun.
I’d seen an inspiration pic on Instagram (I think), and I have a button stash that could use a job. So button barrettes it was.
I took everything to my favorite cafe with a friend, and two of my little friends who were there ended up joining us. Which is the best way to do a craft like this, honestly.

What you need
- Barrette blanks
- Plain headbands
- Buttons (stash buttons are perfect)
- A hot glue gun
How to make them
Pour out your buttons and pick your favorites.
Then put a dot of hot glue on the barrette or headband, press a button on, and repeat. That’s really it.
A few things that help
- Lay your buttons out on the barrette before you glue, so you can play with the order.
- Flat buttons sit nicer than buttons with a loop (shank) on the back.
- Mix sizes and stack a small button on top of a bigger one for a little extra.
- Hot glue is hot. If little ones are crafting with you, a low-temp glue gun is a good idea.
- Let the glue cool completely before you wear them.

I will definitely be wearing this headband at the dress rehearsal for my wedding!
If you make some, tag me @thekitschycreative. I want to see your button combinations.
